Is Hemmingway free?
Yes, to try. You can chat without an account, and a free account comes with a small trial allowance and needs no card. Plus, Pro and Max give you more, from $9 a month. See the plans.
The model itself is open, too. Hemmingway-1’s weights are on Hugging Face, so with a powerful enough computer you can download it and run it yourself, free for personal and other non-commercial use under its CC BY-NC 4.0 licence. Using it in a business or a paid product needs an agreement with us: team@hemmingway.io.
How is it different from ChatGPT?
It runs its own model, Hemmingway-1, made for writing rather than for knowing everything. Ask for a message and you get the message, in a voice that sounds like a person. Compare the same ask, or read four more.
Is this the Hemingway Editor?
No. Hemmingway, with two m’s, writes the text for you. The Hemingway Editor, with one m, is a readability checker from another company. More about us.
Do you train on my writing?
No. We don’t train our models on your chats or on what Hemmingway remembers about you, and we don’t sell them. The privacy policy says what is kept and where.
Is there an app for my computer or phone?
Yes: Mac, Windows and Android, and it works in any browser. Signed in, your chats follow you from one to the other.

Can it write adult fiction?
Not here. Hemmingway Unlocked is the adults-only side, with its own site and a short list of things it never writes.
